August 3rd it was confirmed that I had gotten a job with J.D Irving Ltd., -- the biggest company in the maritimes! I have signed a contract as a communications assistant and I report to the Director of Communication.
I am definitely working in corporate communications partaking in both internal and external communication.
I am currently at Day 4 of work and here is a quick recap of what I have done.
- Paperwork, paperwork and more paperwork (from code of conduct to ethics to IT forms to payroll to contracts...you name it...i'm pretty sure I signed it).
- Phoning every media outlet in NB, NS, PEI and Maine to see if they would like to be on our media contact list to receive news releases, updates, etc.
- Writing a news release...for who? I cannot say (I think that means I signed a privacy contract or something of that sort too).
- I raided the company stationary room for office supplies.
- I'm pretty sure I get like 50 emails a day...it takes 1/2 the day to sort through all of them...
- I have my own cubicle (see below).
Anyhow, that's your quick blog that I promised last week...I am actually super excited for this job. It's allowing me to soak my feet in a little bit of what I want to do for the rest of my life. I am even more excited because it is corporate communications for THE biggest company in the maritimes.
Check out my cubicle and....umm....stuff...
There's my computer
And this is the building I work in!
